Brooklawn Park

Brooklawn Park

In an effort to positively impact the community, each person in the senior class picked a structure they thought could be improved with better design. These structures varied from social organizations, state parks, museums and businesses to a farmers market - my pick. The farmers market I chose was called Brooklawn Park Farmers Market, located in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Pulling up to the Brooklawn Park Farmers Market, there are only 4 tents set up, selling wares and produce. Few customers peruse the tables, and crushed apples litter the ground from the previous week. A few minutes talking to the vendors, and its clear what the problem here is; The farmers market is new, and exposure is low. As the days went by and attendance was consistently low, vendors stopped showing up because it was not worth their time. By September and October, few vendors were left.

Before I began to work on branding the farmers market, I decided to research the park itself. In recent years it seems that the park has had problems with local issues including gun violence and drugs. The farmers market was part of a push to clean up the park and make it friendly again. Another part of this was the installation of a new brightly colored playground. The target audience of this makeover was families, particularly young parents and their kids. Although all this effort had been put into the park, I found that there had been no branding done; The park doesn't even have a sign.

It was at this point that I decided to create a brand for the park, including a logo used for signage and for showcasing the events held there - including the farmers market.
